In this episode, I had the pleasure to sit down with Maytte Dusseau who owns Inspiring Your BEST Life which is a life coaching company, and recently opened up her bookstore called nurture, mind, body, and spirit.

Now, it’s been a goal for Mai Tais for quite some time to open up her bookstore that’s been centred around the mind, body and spirit, something that she was inspired to do at an earlier age when she stumbled across a similar type of bookstore.

And it’s a dream that she has now made a reality, which is pretty cool when you have a dream for such a long period, and to see it come to fruition. So, in this episode, we talked about my taste in childhood, and how that led her to become a law of attraction Coach, what you can find in her new bookstore called nurture, and what exactly is law of attraction is.

Now, as always, we love supporting our locals. And you can help us by sharing this episode and subscribing to the podcast. So you’ll never miss another episode. Now, let’s jump into this one. So welcome to the podcast Mighty, how are you?

I am wonderful.

I’m excited to have you here. I’ve never had a life coach. And kind of so with your experience and stuff on the podcast. So I think you’ll bring a ton of value to anybody that’s listening. And let’s let’s start there. You also have a bookstore that’s opening tomorrow, we’ll dive into that as well. But let’s start with the life coach aspect of your business. How did you get into that? Where did that start?

Okay, so that’s a great story. Because I was in corporate for 20-plus years, I worked for an organization that provided residential services for kids with autism and other developmental disabilities. I did that for 20 years, and I left in 2017. And so the last seven years have been just this, figuring out what was my next step, I have a master’s degree in counselling.

So that’s what I’ve been trained to do, except that I didn’t practice that. I use those skills in my corporate life. And then I decided that I would do some network marketing. And from there, that didn’t work out. And I got coaching because I saw people being very successful doing network marketing, and I kind of thought. Why might I? Why not me? Exactly. So I went and got coaching. I went with an organization called Achieve Today, and they were very spiritually focused. And I got this great coach.

And what I figured out was that the reality is that that business model was not in alignment with me. And I had a lot of people say to me you really should be a coach, you really should be a coach. And I was no.

But as time went on, and I got the experience of what it meant to be a coach in my, in my experience with the coach is, Oh, I think that’s kind of in alignment with what I could be providing.

And then that organization had a law of attraction, coaching certification. And for me, that was in alignment, because I’ve been practicing the Law of attraction for a long, long time. It’s how I live my life. And what I mean by that is you folk, what you focus on, you get more of, and I’ve been able to utilize those universal principles in how I live my life. And so I went through the certification.

It took me a little bit of time, I had the certification, but I had gotten this amazing job in New York, doing what I had been doing for my corporate career, making more money than I had ever made before great organization. And I moved to New York. And it was fabulous, except I only lasted seven years, I mean, seven months because the company had a culture that was very, very tight. While they hired me to help them expand their business, which is what I had done with the organization that I had worked with, they weren’t ready to make the changes that they as an organization needed to have a more national presence.

So I was laid off after in my mid-50s got laid off from that job, and came to Tampa, which was wonderful because Tampa had been on my radar.  I knew when I retired. I was coming to Tampa. , I just knew that. So that led me here. I get a job because I need a job because I’m new to the area working with a psychiatrist COVID hits and I get laid off again.

So here I am in my mid-50s Have you been laid off from two jobs in the space of literally a year and a half? And I’m, Okay, what is up with this

And in that time, I thought to myself, Okay, COVID, what am I going to do? And I’m, Okay, this is the time, this is the time for me to start my coaching practice.

So that’s what I did. high learning curve, the coaching piece, I feel  I can do it in my sleep. Because I live those principles, I talk about those principles, helping other people to understand how to step into their power and that they are the creators of their lives has just brought me so much joy. What’s been interesting is the whole marketing and the promotion and those kinds of things.

So I ended up getting a job and, and then, well, I mean, I can tell you the story about nurture. Because when we get to that but that’s how I became a life coach. And every time I’m sitting in front of someone, and a lot of my coaching is done virtually, or most of my coaching is done virtually, to get people to understand,  what’s getting in their way, and to know that they can reprogram their brain, they can be aware of what their focus is, has just been life-changing.

As a starting started your coaching business, you didn’t have any, I guess you had been coached before? But you didn’t have any other coaching experience before that, other than, what you’ve been practicing? How was that start?  getting starting in that, because I look at that business and doesn’t seem there’s a blueprint of, how to get clients how to run your business, how to set up operations and all that, how was that for you?

Well, it’s been very interesting, because there are lots of different people doing lots of different things. When the coach was okay, you get a signature speech, your signature speech, that’s what you’re going to go out there.

And you’re going to talk about every single time, I have a big signature speech, I can talk about a law of attraction and any part of your life, and what you can do, in terms of understanding what that is, and the interventions or the strategies that you can implement. There’s a workshop that you can do that you do once a quarter and your promotions are about your workshop. So I’ve tried a lot of those, and they’ve, they have their value.

What’s interesting now is that because I have nurture, I feel  I’m just in a whole other headspace around it. And so for me, I feel organically, I can do the workshops, I can do the signature speeds  I have all these tools in my toolbox. And now I’m also a business owner of a bookstore. And I think that the combination of those two is what is aligning me, that that’s going to be the vehicle not necessarily nurtured, specifically, but the ability to say, I’m a law of attraction coach, and I have a spiritual bookstore. I think that when people start having those kinds of conversations when I’m having those conversations, I’m going to attract the ready people. So for me, that’s kind of where I’m at, , putting into place those things that I’ve learned in the context of all that we’re talking about, is going to be the business model for me.

And for some reason, that feels in alignment resonates more than, okay, you got to do this, you got to do that. You got to do this. Now I’m, okay, I can do any of that. That feels to me in that moment. What’s my next project gonna be?

I  that. What is what is life coaching to you?

So life coaching to me is holding the space for someone who understands how powerful they are. Maybe they don’t believe it. 100% But they know that they are the ones that are responsible and are willing to take 100% responsibility for their plan for their life for their vision. And what I do in terms of coaching is ask a lot of questions.

Help them to think about things differently. I mean, I do put my two cents in with permission. And the best way to describe it is that Therapy is understanding where you came from understanding the family dynamics, what you developed, and what your belief systems are, and I look at those, but I look at those from, how do we move forward.

So I help them to identify what are those things that through our conversation they recognize are what’s keeping them stuck, so to speak. And then we come up with a plan for what needs to happen to move forward, which could be the action steps related to the goal. But part of that always is having a level of awareness of what comes up for you as you’re doing that. Because for most of us, that stuff comes up and it’s subconscious.

And all you do is, oh,  what I want to watch Netflix, I don’t want to get this done. Or you do those kinds of procrastination behaviours, or you’re just not feeling it,  all of those kinds of things behind it is a limiting belief or is a conversation that you’re having on that level, that is about you’re not good enough, or this isn’t the time, or you can put it off till tomorrow, it’s okay. But the higher self, the person who you are, knows that if you have this goal, these are the things you need to do. And recognizes that those are the limiting beliefs or the conversations that are not helpful. And we can come up with a plan on how you’re going to address that. So every time that comes up, this is what you’re going to do.

So a huge part of it is helping people to recognize that they have those, and they can change them. Because we know now from a scientific perspective, that you can reprogram your brain? It’s a matter of consistent awareness, focus, attention and choice.

Self-awareness, do you think everybody has that ability, or muscle 100% some people just more and more so than others.

I think it’s a choice. I think that if you want to become self-aware, you’re able to do that. There are lots of different techniques, you can go to therapy, you can go to coat you can get, I mean, there’s lots of different ways that you can do that.

The bookstore is going to provide a way to start asking questions and getting knowledge that’s going to help you to think about what do I believe. What do I believe in? So I think so I think, unfortunately, what happens is that people get so caught up in kind of a way of being.

I usually say this, when I’m speaking, they’re in a default mode, which is they wake up every day, the same way, they have the same breakfast, they drive the same way to work, they go to work, they see the same people,  their life is just the same all the time. And when you get complacent that. It could be safe and familiar. You don’t have to go outside of that. And for some people, that’s where they are in their journey.

So it’s not that they don’t have the ability, it’s that they’re not in a place where that’s important to them. Maybe because everybody’s on their journey. ,  you came here for reasons and everybody has those and sometimes, I mean, we we just don’t know.

When I first got into real estate, I remember having the thought of I think it was the first book I read on personal development or something and I forget what it was that attracted me to  I needed to go to the bookstore and find a book and read a book and before that, I didn’t read a ton of books for personal development or pleasure or anything but so I remember going to the bookstore and the first book I read was was Rich Dad Poor Dad.

And that idea that concept completely changed. I think the trajectory of my life is my life,  reading that book and a different way of thinking. It wasn’t just nine to five get a good job, have a career retire, all that kind of stuff.

So that led me to a book called The Answer which is more the law of attraction type stuff. How did you first come into this idea of the law of attraction where did that start with you?

The Power of Self-Awareness: Nurturing Growth and Finding Alignment

So it started from my family of origin because my family considered themselves to be ritualist so they believed in reincarnation, and they believed in mediums and psychics and mind power and all of that kind of stuff. And so I grew up. Having heard that and experiencing that in sort of how we believed. So my mom sent us to the Baptist Church for Sunday School but we would come home and she said, What did you learn today?

And I would say, Well, we learned about heaven and hell, and she wouldn’t be, oh that’s not really how we believe. And so we’d have this whole conversation. But I didn’t really and that’s kind of the start of the book source, the book store story, because I had all these beliefs, you couldn’t talk about them with anybody, because a lot of people didn’t have those beliefs. And my mother would say be careful who you talk to about this, because, it’s not accepted.

When I walked into that bookstore, in Philadelphia, on South Street, it was the first place that I experienced knowledge that was similar to what I knew to be true. So for me, the books were the two that just really stand out. One was the seven spiritual laws of success by Deepak Chopra. It’s a very small book. And it’s a great book because it talks about the spiritual laws. And then at the end of each chapter, it gives you practical ways to implement that in your life.

And I remember starting a spiritual practice of non-judgment as a result of that because it talks about, everybody’s on their journey. And you have no idea what that is for somebody else. And so being able to honour that, as you would want that honoured in yourself, just really made a lot of sense for me. And so that’s something that I started. And then the other one was many lives, many masters by Dr. Brian Weiss.

That is a story of a psychiatrist who is helping a patient and under hypnosis starts going into past lives, and can verify that these things are happening. And the thing about that book is that in between lives, a lot of the information that he was able to gather, again validated, so many of these beliefs that I had grown up with.

Now law of attraction, in particular, kind of was there. I mean, I’ve always been a personal, spiritual seeker in terms of my books, but personal development started. When I did network marketing, because I was gonna say to you, anytime you’re in any kind of sales personal development is just something that is almost just part of it.

Because for you to be the most effective salesperson or connector, or influencer, you have to understand yourself and have a level of confidence that you can, and, what, all of those things. But the law of attraction in particular started when I was in my corporate career because I got reintroduced to Abraham Hicks.

At the end of my career, in corporate, I was in a place where our company had been sold to private equity, and the quality of our services was not where it needed to be. And I was struggling because I didn’t want to be there.

But I didn’t know what my next step was. And I remember here, watching that video and realizing that I was 100% responsible for what was going to happen in my life. And I had to think about what was I thinking. What was I focusing on? And what I was thinking and focusing on was, I was stuck. I’m not valued. I’m too old.

Those were the things that I was thinking about, which was keeping me stuck. I started by literally saying, Okay, I am open to the universe, presenting some options here, because I don’t know. And I trust that everything is always working out for me. And I had been a tenant of my life for a long time.

I lost my husband when my son was five months old. And I remember in that moment, thinking, I don’t know why this happened, but everything is always working out for me. And I didn’t mean for that to happen, but everything happens for a reason and everything happens for my highest good and so fast forward. I started thinking the same thing and just being open to that. The next thing I know, they eliminate my position from my job. And I had a choice about they offered me another one, but it was going to be travelling.

I had a 16-year-old son that I was a leader at home with his own to his own devices at that point. And I, I took the chance to do network marketing, because I had sort of been doing a little bit of it, and had a girlfriend, who had done the same thing from an admission standpoint. And she had been very successful.

She can do it. I can do it. And so I took that leap. And it was, I gotta tell you, Donnie, it was one of the best things that ever happened because I got to be home with my son during his last year of high school,  a junior in high school, and it was the biggest blessing, forget that the network marketing didn’t work, which was, oh interesting. But I have to say, spending that time with my son, was, priceless.

You never get that back. No, exactly.

And so here, this thing happens. And I created the circumstances for it to change. I didn’t know that that was going to happen. But it was incredible. Because as soon as I shifted my focus to being open, and to knowing that it was going to work out and that everything was going to be fine. And I could trust that it shifted, and I cannot tell you how many times that has happened to me.

I would agree in real estate, and I don’t have that similar mindset where I always think, everything happens for a reason. I don’t know where that came from. But there’s, there have been so many circumstances in real estate, where a buyer missed out on a home or a buyer cancelled a contract and the listing we had, and then two weeks later,  everything works out, they find a better home or something that.

There’s one now that I’m going through where we put in an offer and ended up being multiple offers, we missed out on the opportunity to purchase a home and then the contract fell through and now we’re back under contract on the home.

So it’s, I’ve always had that belief, where does that come from? for you? Or is it just something that’s always kind of been there?

I think it’s just always kind of been there.  I mean, I’ve had a very interesting life and family of origin, trauma, all those kinds of things. But again, I was listening to your podcast with Molina. And I think that we all get into the helping field, just as she said because we have things that we need to work on. And so I did that.

But I also had spiritual beliefs. And for me, having grown up in a family where you believe in reincarnation, and the whole idea of reincarnation is that you choose to come into this life, you pick your parents, you literally from a consciousness perspective, agree to come here and to have these things happen.

That’s not to say there’s no free will because the moment that you get here, you get to decide and make choices. But there are predisposed kinds of things that you’re agreeing to. This is why in taking 100%, responsible responsibility, it’s for the good and the bad you are creating your life good and bad. So it’s just always been there.

For me, I think the thing that is added to it, is that it’s also the energy of that statement. When you can say, everything is always working out for me, what you’re putting out there is gratitude. It’s acceptance, it’s surrender. It’s all of these things that allow the universe to continue to bring things to your highest good.

I’ll contrast that with your example, which is if you were someone who would be frustrated and disappointed. Why does this always happen to me and have that kind of mindset? It wouldn’t work out the way continuously see it works out because the Energy is about giving you more of that. Giving you more disappointment, giving you of wider swing that out? You’re seeking out that disappointment with that that mindset.

Exactly. That’s the law of attraction. You’re working for your good or, not so good.

So what I teach is practical tips and stuff, but if someone’s kind of in that stage where they’re thinking through how can I improve or whatever it is? What are some questions you mentioned,  you ask yourself some questions and, what are some things that somebody can do to kind of help them better understand their situation? And just kind of take that next step?

Well, I think the first step is the acknowledgement that you want things to be better. So the understanding of where you are now, doing a deep dive on that there’s the wheel of life, there’s all these different areas of your life, your relationships, your family, your finances, your career, your health, who you are as a person.

And so I think that’s really the first step. I mean, even in terms of the law of attraction, and the work that we do, it’s always starting from where you are.

Where are you and understanding that, and then the next step is, well, where do you want to go? And it could the, the thing that I think that I do the best about the work that I do is that when you understand these concepts, then it doesn’t matter what area of your life you want to work on. It’s the same thing. It’s about what’s the vision of the future that you want to create. And what can you practically do? What are the things that are getting in the way?

If you understand what your beliefs are around that area, let’s just say health. What are the things that you want to accomplish? Well, I want to lose 20 pounds. Well, why do you want to lose 20 pounds,  it’s not about the pounds, it’s about how you feel about yourself, and helping people to get to that point because you want to feel better.

One of the things that I teach that is the first step in awareness is it’s called the step three-step. And it’s by my coach. He created this and it’s all about, in your day checking in with yourself to start with 10 times a day.

Okay, how do I feel? Where do I feel it? And if it’s anything that’s not good, meaning? It’s not positive, it’s not hopeful. Is it not appreciated? It’s not on the higher vibration? , it’s worry doubt, anxiety, fear, any of those kinds of feelings.

They’re always attached to some kind of statement behind that, but let’s just go with the feeling. You feel anxiety. I’m opening up the store tomorrow. And yesterday, even though I was going through my day and doing what I needed to do,  the level of anxiety that I was feeling was high. And I knew that everything was fine.

But my body was just reacting. And so I had to think, okay, that’s not me. I’m good. That’s just my body. It’s probably an old program. And I at that moment, could disidentify from it. Enough to go okay, that’s not me. For a lot of people, they’re well, how do I want to say this?

They become their feelings almost.

I’m in fear. That’s who I am. I’m a fearful person. We’re when you’re able to separate yourself from that you can start to see how your mind is working. And so over time, 10 times a day, you can start kind of judging where are you.

And so, if you’re somebody who worries a lot or is in fear a lot, then the work is well, what’s going on? What is that about? And then, and then switching it again. It’s, what’s the next best feeling thought I can have?

So, the common theme that I’m hearing is, is one, and something that I’ve thought about too is, you got to give yourself space to think about those things be quiet, whatever it is for you.  being outside sitting down quietly or hiring a coach.

You got to have space to kind of process where you’re at And sometimes, and that’s hard with the world that we live in today, where there’s so much distractions, your phone is with you. 24/7.So that’s a big part of it. So, this bookstore, it’s called nurture, mind, body and spirit. Tell me about it. Where did it Where did the idea come from? And what is it going to be?

So the idea I’ve had, as I said earlier, since I was in my early 20s, walking into that bookstore, and just feeling connected,  this information resonated so deeply with who I was that I was, and, and I want this, I want to have this.

But at the time, I had just finished my master’s, I was starting my career, and I got all those messages of that’s not going to make you any money. That’s, think about that when you’re older. And, and I didn’t have, I’m not who I am now, to have had the courage to do that, that. So let’s just say that. So it’s been in the back of my head for a long time.

And probably in the last year, it’s become more pronounced. And I will tell you a couple of things that have happened that have just been profound. One was Amy triplet, Douglas triplet, or triplet Douglas. She’s a friend, and we were out to dinner with a group. And she shared with us that she had had this idea about home.

And she was making it happen she was in the process of making this dream happen. And that just really inspired me. And that was probably the summer when that occurred. So I started thinking about it. I started going out to the different metaphysical stores and kind of seeing what was out there doing my market research. And, but it wasn’t it.

It wasn’t happening inside of me. And I had been, I had made the decision a while back through Aubrey Marcus that we talked about earlier that I was going to do an Ayahuasca journey. And so I got gifted a week at this place called Arrhythmia in Costa Rica. And I went in November, the week before Thanksgiving.

My intention is going there was to get clarity on this next chapter of my life and remove any barriers that were in the way, of my success. That was why I went there. And of course, they have their own intentions that they said, which are very powerful as well. But I came back and literally on Sunday, I came back on Friday, and I had a conversation with my friend, Karen, who and I have been friends for a couple of years. She has a business, but she’s also a psychic, and she wants to impact people.

She does meditation groups, and she was looking for a space. And she said to me, I found I have a lead on a space. I’m wondering, if would you be interested in maybe looking at it with me because I know you want to do this bookstore and this might be a great place. So we went on Monday after Thanksgiving on Wednesday, was a done deal.

She had a friend who designs retail spaces who designed our spaces. And the ball has been rolling and we’re opening tomorrow. And when I tell you that everything has happened with ease and flow, financing, the books and figuring that out and vendors that are so excited to partner and have their things sold at the bookstore. And just it’s been so much work.

I’ve never owned a brick-and-mortar business. , a coaching business, but not a brick-and-mortar business. So the learning curve has been high. But in contrast to the coaching business, where I had to do a lot of personal development and work on myself to not have impostor syndrome, which we all have anyway. , but to address the things that we talked about earlier, just the procrastination.

Am I good enough? All of those things? also helped me because now I’m doing all these things that are way outside of my comfort zone, but I am okay. I’m just doing them and I’m learning and I’m excited. And it’s, Oh, my goodness,  this dream is coming to reality in literally December, January, February. So three and a half months. I can’t even believe it.

And the most exciting thing is that we’re in a great location. Karen and I are partnering. So my vision of the bookstore before Karen was part of it was to always have a space to do workshops and to bring people in, and to be able to offer more than just a bookstore. So the partnership with Karen was just, hello, universe, thank you so much.

Because she takes care of that. And granted, we’re going to have joint workshops, we’re going to have met the author, which is going to happen once a month, because what we want to do is to create a space in the community where people can come who are spiritual seekers, who want more for themselves.

The books that are going to be at the bookstore are under mine for personal development, and all things around that subject, body nutrition, different ways of looking at medicine, a lot of books around your health, you have control over that when you take care of your health, you’re elevating yourself,  they all go hand in hand. And then obviously, the spiritual, which has been so incredibly powerful for me.

We’re also going to have a section that’s going to be all about addiction and recovery. Because what I have found is that we have a big population of folks in this area that are working on that. And when you’re working on recovery, you’re on a spiritual journey.  those are just hand in hand. So I felt that was going to be an important addition to just my body and spirit. But I want people to know, I want people to have a great experience.

We’re opening tomorrow, and it’s the first day and it’s the first step because it’s just going to continue to grow and become what? I think in my head not I think that what’s in my head about having people that walk in there and feel a different energy, I always say that they’re just transported into another space in time, another timeline for themselves of hope, excitement and possibility.

So that’s pretty cool. And so whoever’s listening to this, the books or whatever, be open by the time you’re hearing this episode. But that’s, that’s pretty cool. Do you do you? Did you ever have the itch to kind of open a bookstore before or it was just kind of, it would be cool to own a bookstore?

I feel  I knew it was going to happen. Okay. I just didn’t know when. And I didn’t understand, how it was all going to work. But I will tell you that there was another contributing factor, which is if not now, when?  I am you had a big birthday last year, and I just had that plus one on Monday. I did not want to be on my deathbed. And think, why did I do that?

I didn’t want to have a regret around that. And I’ve done a lot of work around not even work. But, one of the things that I do is I do live on Facebook. Going to start doing them on LinkedIn, I don’t know about lies, but starting to be more out there. And regrets are a thing.  people have them. And yet here we are creating our life and you get to do that.

So if you have a dream, I believe that the universe placed that on your heart because it’s yours. And you have everything that you need to make that happen. So if you’re not why it’s interesting.

When I started in real estate, I did a bunch of research for a year before I committed to, Okay, I’m gonna get my license and I’m a real estate agent. And I got to the point where I was, if I don’t try this, I know I’m gonna regret it. So I think the regret,  having regrets, drives me, I think in some situations, Okay, I have to try this.

You just have to do it. And you just figure it out.

And for me in this moment in time. The way that it happened,  this idea and a dream that I had, but I went to arrhythmia and did Ayahuasca I came back and literally, and they say when you do ayahuasca,  don’t make Got any important decisions for 30 days?

That’s that’s kind of what they say. And yet I came back and this all unfolded my mom’s here, not now. But she was here for Thanksgiving. And for a month, she usually stays with me. And she had a moment of a beach so much so quick that she was.

Do you think you need to slow down? You may need to think about this. And I looked at her and I said, Mom, this has been my dream,  this. Since my 20s. And here, it’s all unfolding. In front of my eyes. All I have to do is just be open and continue to do what I need to do due to what’s happening. And she was, there’s an ease and flow.

When you’re in alignment, what needs to happen, that you just can’t deny that? Well, I’m excited for you. I’m excited for your book sort of open tomorrow. Where can people where’s it located?

So it’s located at 1599 Main Street, Dunedin, Florida. If you’re local to this area, which I know most of your audience is, it is across the street from Prohibition Dinesen in the same Plaza as our place restaurant, okay, so it’s this little L-shaped, little shopping plaza.

So we’re there. And we’d love to see you. I have a Facebook page, Nurture Mind Body Spirit green logo with this book that has magic coming out of it. Just kind of cool. I got my logo. And there’s a web address. So www.nurturemindbodyspirit.net. And you can get more information. And on there, there’s a PDF on the spiritual awakening steps. And if you want to be part of a newsletter that I will be creating on a monthly basis. You can sign up for that there.

Well, thank you for taking the time to do this. I appreciate you.
